Savannah Red and Handmade Nation

20 Sep

Last week, my friend Anslee had a fashion show where she debuted the gorgeous clothing she designs and makes.  Her clothing/design company is Savannah Red.  Many of her dresses are retro/’50s inspired and are made from found or re-purposed materials.  This means, one dress could be made from an old sheet, another from what was once a vest, etc.  I was so impressed with her lovely dresses, and so excited that she is doing what she loves!  I wish her so much success!!

On another, yet somewhat similar note, I went to the Alamo to see Handmade Nation, this awesome documentary about the crafting, do-it-yourself, handmade movement in the U.S.  It was fun to see a lot of the designers and artists I follow on Design*Sponge.  I love seeing people doing what they love, creating lovely things, and then finding a way to sustain themselves this way.
