Eco Fashion Show

28 Mar

I’ve written before about my friend Anslee, who is a fashion designer and has her own clothing line for curvy ladies.    Recently, Anslee invited me to MODEL for her Make Sense of Your World‘s Eco Fashion Show.  It was so so fun! First, however, I had to learn how to walk in my fabulous bright [...]

Kite Day

21 Mar

Kite Day in Austin this year was glorious!  I love living in a city that celebrates Spring in such a Mary Poppins sort of way.

Dinosaur Foot Prints

17 Oct

Yesterday, C took me hiking in the-middle-of-nowhere Texas, and we saw dinosaur tracks!  REAL LIVE DINO FOOT PRINTS.  And above is my picture to prove it.  The foot print is to the right of the red leaf, and if you look closely, you can clearly see the outline of three toes (the middle toe is [...]

Dusky Hike

9 Oct

Last week, Chris and I discovered an entrance into the Green Belt that was just a few blocks from our home.  The Green Belt is a stretch of completely undeveloped land that runs throughout Austin.  And a river winds through much of the Green Belt.  Because it has been dry for so long, we were [...]

Savannah Red and Handmade Nation

20 Sep

Last week, my friend Anslee had a fashion show where she debuted the gorgeous clothing she designs and makes.  Her clothing/design company is Savannah Red.  Many of her dresses are retro/’50s inspired and are made from found or re-purposed materials.  This means, one dress could be made from an old sheet, another from what was [...]

John’s Austin Visit

12 Apr

John recently came to visit us in Austin for his Spring Break.  It was such a fun time…Chris and I really enjoyed our very first guest to our little apartment!  (Although I’m not sure how much our very first guest enjoyed a week of sleeping on the sofa…ha!)  Anyway, it was really great to see [...]

Kite Day

29 Mar

Today was Kite Day in Austin (well, it was when I first began writing this post)!  Every March 1st, Austin celebrates Spring by holding a Kite Day in Zilker Park.  It was just a lovely, chill afternoon of families and groups of friends and couples flying kites, picknicking, and enjoying the brisk, March afternoon.

Green Gate Farms

22 Feb

Today was my first Saturday volunteering at Green Gate Farms.  I’ve been looking around for a farm that accepts interns or volunteers, but have had a little trouble finding one as most farmers are just too busy to train someone new.  Green Gate accepts volunteers and even has a couple of interns.  They sell primarily [...]

Theology on Tap at Uncorked

7 Dec

On Thursday Chris and I participated in this really fun event called Theology on Tap with the young adult group at St. David’s.  We met at Uncorked (Chris thought I was saying “Corpse” for a while) , a wine bar in downtown Austin.  I found Uncorked to be a really neat space with a relaxed [...]

Pomegranate

27 Sep

Fall is here and with cool breezes come the first pomegranates of the season.  Chris and I found ourselves fascinated with these fruits, both for their health benefits and their beautiful red skin.  This morning, we bought a pomegranate!  I was all for peeling it, cutting it in half, seeing what was inside.  Fortunately, Chris [...]
